The Proper Way to Layer Your Skincare

In the world of skincare there are always new brands and products being created. Some that are truly skin advancements in the industry and some that are ehhh not so worthy. You can take your time with reviews (I highly recommend!!) and you can try all the new products and trends (I love to do this as well!!) but without proper understanding of how to layer your skincare you are wasting your time and your money!

STEP 1 + 2 = DOUBLE CLEANSE!!

You always want to cleanse your skin TWICE! Think of the first cleanse as you sweeping the skin and the second as you mopping. You ALWAYS have to sweep before you mop! This step is ESSENTIAL to remove any makeup, dirt, debris, product, or excess oils from throughout your day and from overnight! Yes, morning & night; it is also essential to cleanse TWICE A DAY and TWICE EACH TIME!

I recommend using Circadia’s Vitamin Veil Cleanser; an oil-based cleanser FIRST. This is best to remove stubborn waterproof formulas as well as dirt and debris that clog pores. The Vitamin Veil Cleanser is great for leaving your skin feeling soft, leaving behind an invisible veil of antioxidants.

As for your SECOND cleanser, you should address your skin type and concerns such as hydration, brightening, or treating acne.

STEP 3 = EXFOLIATE

Exfoliating is recommended 2-3x a week. Exfoliating removes dead skin cells from the skins epidermis layer, the outer/top layer of your skin. Our skin has natural cell turnover however it slows down as we age which is why exfoliating becomes essential in our routine but maybe at one time it wasn’t. Our cells have a natural turn over rate of about 2 weeks as baby, then slows down to 28-40 days as adults. By exfoliating we promote faster cell turn over by removing the dead, dry, dull skin cells from the epidermis and revealing fresh skin cells

STEP 4 = TONER! You do not want to make the mistake of missing out on toner. Toner balances the pH level of your skin after you cleanse AND throughout the day.

I recommend having TWO toners, one for at home and one for on the go/throughout the day.

For home treatment, use your toner AFTER you double cleanse + on days of exfoliation, use it AFTER you exfoliate. If you’re doing an at home facial and applying a mask, you would use your toner after you exfoliate (because you will ALWAYS exfoliate when performing an at home facial), then apply your mask. Once you remove your mask (however is instructed by the mask you’re using) you will apply your toner again to balance the pH. You can apply your toner by spraying it on your face or on a clean cotton round.

For on the go treatment, you can just spray your face throughout the day to prevent environmental damage, help clarify acne, brighten, hydrate and relieve your skin.

STEP 5 = SERUMS + TREATMENTS

Serums are a GAME CHANGER! Their molecule size is smaller than moisturizers so their able to travel deeper into your skin. This is amazing for treating your specific skin concerns! Serums boost your skins routine and enhance your complexion and texture. For acne or age spots, I recommend Circadia’s Vitamin C Reversal Serum. For sensitive skin, I recommend Murad’s Sensitive Skin Soothing Serum. For dry skin or dehydrated, I recommend Circadia’s Moisture on Demand. For active acne, Circadia’s Spot Stop Treatment. For texture repair from acne, Murad’s InvisiScar Resurfacing Treatment.

STEP 5 = HYDRATE/MOISTURIZER

Moisturizers are essential for all skin types. If you have oily skin I recommend a gel based moisturizer such as Murad’s Nutrient Charged Water Gel. For dry skin Circadia’s Aquaporin Hydrating Cream. For Acne, I recommend Circadia’s Day Time or Night Time Lotion or Murad’s Skin Perfecting Lotion. To boost your hydration if you have oily skin but you feel your skin is dehydrated, add Hydralox by Circadia to your moisturizer or use Circadia’s Moisture on Demand Serum in combination with your moisturizer. It’s a huge mistake to not use moisturizer if you have oily skin because your skin starts to produce more oil for the lack of hydration. This is why the right moisturizer matters and if you are struggling with this reach out to Bia about your skin care concerns or book a facial!

STEP 6 = SUNSCREEN

Sunscreen is a daily essential. Whether the sun is out or it’s overcast, whether you’re fair, tan, brown, light or dark skin, your skin is your biggest organ!!! Protect your skin from the sun. Using a facial sunscreen is best due to certain body sunscreens may clog your pores causing acne , blackheads, buildup or breakouts. I recommend Circadia’s Light Day face & neck Sunscreen. This will not clog your pores causing any acne or blackhead.
