The Tea on Professional Facials

If you want hydrated skin, youthful appearance and an even complexion a facial is what you need! Facials not only help with your skin but they can be very relaxing and in this busy day and age it can do wonders on the mind to lay down for a hour and get pampered. Facials are the number one thing you didn’t realize you were missing until you had it. Your skin is your biggest organ and it’s important we treat it that way. The skin has a natural cell turnover; which means naturally the skin sheds dead skin cells through a process called desquamation. As a baby this process takes only 2 weeks, in our teen years it takes about 3-4 weeks and as we age it can take up to 40 days. This is why baby skin is so soft and as we get older our skin becomes more tough.

What makes a professional facial special?

During a professional facial treatment you can expect a deep cleanse, exfoliation, extraction ( if desired & needed), facial massage, mask and moisturization. Your skin is analyzed and based on your skin the products are chosen that will benefit you. Professional facials use products that may only be used by professionals such as chemical peels, various enzyme exfoliants and facial masks. The products target skin conditions and concerns and may show you results in as small as one treatment. A facial massage is another major benefit of a professional facial. Massaging the muscles in the face improves circulation, stimulates collagen production, relaxes and tones the muscles. There’s many external factors that take a toll on your skin. In the atmosphere outside there is air pollution, smoking, drinking and the food/nutrients you put into your body can cause puffy, dry, dull and pale skin. The massage improves circulation by stimulating the lymph nodes, causing mucus buildup to break down stimulating drainage. Collagen is a natural protein that maintains our elasticity of the skin meaning the more produced the younger we look. Headaches, anxiety and stress decrease from facial massage. (Feel free to massage your pressure points at home if you face any of these 3 battles!)

How often should you get a facial?

Once a month or at least once every 3 months/season change. Everyones skin is completely different. If you have a skin concern with acne, dry spots, oily spots, hyperpigmentation, scars, etc. seeing an Aesthetician once a month can drastically make a difference to your skin. If you do not have any skin concerns, it is recommended at LEAST once every 3 months. When seasons change or we travel our skin also goes through a lot of environmental changes and facials are not only essential but necessary. A professional facial should be viewed as skin maintenance for your biggest organ; ensuring elasticity, hydration, healthy complexion and overall healthy skin!
